Embracing the Kiwi can-do attitude, over 120,000 youth from Cape Reinga to Bluff defied the economic downturn by raising over $2.6 million dollars for the 2009 World Vision 40 Hour Famine, more funds than in 2008.

Famine funds make a vital difference!

2009 Famine funds helped in so many ways, from creating employment and educational opportunities for disabled youth in Cambodia and providing food items to the Philippines after Typhoon Ketsana to improving the health of malnourished children in Bangladesh.

Emergency funding in the Philippines

Four typhoons struck the Philippines from Sept 26 causing devastation for nearly 9,000 people.

929 died people died, over 200,000 houses were damaged and over 370,000 displaced people were evacuated to 515 centres.

Fortunately, 2009 Famine funds were sent immediately to support the relief effort. Famine funds enabled food to be distributed to 95,000 people in evacuation centres, relief goods to 143,000 people and eight Child Friendly Spaces established to care for 4500 children.
