We want the Famine to run as smoothly as possible for you so here are some step by step guidelines that will help you manage and promote your school/group Famine. Don't forget your Schools Relationship Coordinator or the Famine team is only a phone call away 0800 FAMINE (326463).

Step 1 Set a fundraising goal for your school or group – it's a great way to focus everyone on reaching a specific amount and communicating what your dollars will provide for children in need.
Step 2 Read and communicate the Choose your Famine guidelines to your school or group - let them know which Famine is appropriate for their age.
Step 3 Obtain parental consent for any participants under the age of 14.
Step 4 Register your school online at famine.org.nz.
Step 5 Distribute Sponsor Books to participants and record their details on the record sheet in your Organiser book.
Step 6

Help "Raise the Stakes" and promote the Famine by:

  • Establishing a promotion plan with your team
  • Giving everyone the opportunity to register for the Famine at promotion time
  • Organising a fun Famine event that participants can be involved in
  • Contacting your World Vision Schools Relationship Coordinator and ask about having a World Vision speaker visit your school to talk at assemblies or meetings
  • Show the 2009 Famine promotional DVD and/or use the PowerPoint presentation in the Organiser resources section of the DVD(provided in your Organiser pack)
  • Display Famine posters around your school, look for free advertorial space in your local newspaper and promote through word-of-mouth, text messages and email
  • Advertise your fundraising goals, along with your plan to get there ($___ per person)
Step 7

Collect and bank money:

  • The National Bank is the official bank for depositing funds. Call 0800 FAMINE (326 463) for other banking options
  • Make sure participants return their money and their used Famine book's to you after the Famine
  • Return your group's deposit book and other used materials to World Vision
  • Ensure all banking is completed by July 3. This is the cut-off date for the schools' scholarship elligibility, however you can still bank after this date
  • Use follow-up slips (in your Organiser book) for those who haven't returned money or books by your deadline
Step 8 Thank Faminers with a certificate. A photocopyable template for both the 20 and 40 hour Famine is provided in your Organiser book, other prizes may be provided to you by your World Vision representative.
