Event Ideas
Running an event or activity is a great way of raising funds, whilst generating publicity for the 40 Hour Famine! Your event/activity can run in the lead-up, during or post Famine weekend (May 22-24).
Registering your school's event on the Famine website is a great opportunity to showcase your event AND provide viewers with an opportunity to donate! Click here to add your event!

Here are some ideas of things you can do:
Theme days
In the week leading up to, and during, the Famine weekend hold some exciting theme days in your school or with your group. Schools have previously held ‘bad hair days', mufti days, school idol competitions, op shop auctions, and ethnic food stalls.
Refugee camp
This popular event can either be done as an alternative to a food Famine, or it can add to your Famine experience. Set up a refugee camp using cardboard boxes, tarpaulins and any other materials that are handy.
Auction
Run a Dutch auction. This is where everyone brings a prize from home, wrapped in newspaper. Then get people to bid on the wrapped items. It's fun to see what everyone gets, and you raise money for the Famine at the same time!
Sports events
Holding a sports challenge can be a great alternative to a traditional food Famine. For example, you could organise a 40 Hour fun-run and get sponsored for it, or encourage your participants to do the Weet-Bix Tryathlon as their Famine event.
Music/Arts
Hold a Famine-themed art exhibition and auction off the artwork, or charge admission to attend. Hold a musical fundraiser gathering local bands to play a concert in aid of the Famine - get a band or music class within your group or school to write and perform a Famine song at the event, and take donations after the performance.
Showcase
Hold a concert, talent quest, or buck-a-thon. Donate money from ticket sales (or donations for busking) towards your Famine total.
Stall
Run a stall at your school or community fair or market, selling things that are popular and easy to make. Have a sausage sizzle, or sell homemade baking, or your old toys, games, books and other bric-a-brac.
NB: when planning your events, carefully consider what skills and resources you have access to, then select events and activities that are manageable and will give you the greatest return for your efforts.
